A Lib Dem Council would empower residents to have a real say over issues that matter. In the meantime we speak up for people who all too often feel let down. Gateshead charges the highest levels of Council Tax for band D properties of any metropolitan borough in the country but residents feel that it is out of touch and unresponsive. That has to change!

MP Tim Farron met Lib Dem campaigners battling Labour to win the Bridges by-election in Gateshead. Tim gave an impromptu speech covering how Labour had won the general election by default but there was no great enthusiasm for Starmer.
Tim Farron MP, visited Gateshead to support and endorse Jonathan Aibi in his Bridges Ward campaign.
Jonathan Aibi said “The child benefit cap means families don't get financial support for more than two children. It is unfair and cruel.
Soon after Jonathan Aibi called for the Council to improve Gateshead High Street, the Council launched a consultation asking for residents’ views on how to improve the High Street.
We need a strong local champion to challenge Labour bosses at the Council when they get things wrong
